Dear Mr Potter…

So I discovered this little joy of a book and thought I’d tell the world about it, cause that’s what I do. Consider me a filter for all of the knowledge on the internet: if I don’t talk about it, it’s not worth talking about!*

“Dear Mr. Potter: Letters of Love, Loss, and Magic,” at nearly 200 pages in length, features nearly hundreds of letters and pictures from Harry Potter fans. Individually, these letters and pictures tell stories of how fans have been impacted and inspired by Harry Potter. Together they serve as proof of what all Potter fans know so well: the Harry Potter series changes lives.

Along with fans from around the world, “Dear Mr. Potter” also features letters from New York Times-bestselling author John Green, Andrew Slack of the Harry Potter Alliance, Paul DeGeorge of Harry and the Potters, and Andrew Sims and Eric Scull of MuggleNet.

All proceeds from “Dear Mr. Potter” will directly benefit the Harry Potter Alliance and its efforts to improve literacy worldwide.

Regular viewers will know I’ve got a soft spot for really creative fan-made content, and the HPA are a great example of fans coming together with a shared interest in something awesome (in this case, a certain boy wizard we’re all fairly familiar with) and doing something awesome within that community. I know a lot of folk who still take a lot of personal inspiration from that fandom (the films ruined it for me, but I’m due a re-read of the books some time soon) and I think this is something they’ll all appreciate.

If you’re a big enough HP nerd to have figured out what house you’re in, know your Grindylows from your Gillyweed, and have considered who you’d ask to the Yule Ball, this may just be the book for you!
